YEAR 6

Dear Parents and Students,

It’s hard to believe it is the end of Term One. It has been a very busy and productive term with usual core curriculum programs and extra curricular activities. Students had an opportunity to be part of some really educational incursions. On 17th March, we had an Anti- Bullying incursion and on 19th March, we had Responsible Pet Ownership Incursion. Students also had fun with the Polka Dress Up Day on 5th March.

We are very happy to inform you about the establishment of an SRC (Student Representative Committee) with four students from Year 6. Congratulations Hamza Sheriff, Ali Alkundi, Noor Mgoter and Khadijah Khan for joining the SRC. Hopefully you will be very busy in the coming terms and bring new projects and ideas to make Sirius College an even better place to be.

This Term in Literacy, Year 6 students learnt about writing informal and formal letters, nouns and pronouns in Grammar and adding morphographs in Spelling.

In Numeracy, we covered addition and subtraction mental as well as written strategies, how to measure length and area, geometric and number patterns and ordering operations.

In Integrated Studies, Year 6s learnt about the impact of British Colonization on the rights of Aboriginal Australians since Federation, the loss of basic human rights of children of the Stolen Generations and the Forgotten Australians and examined why and how the people who are displaced by the war became a part of Australian society.

In Art, students learnt about artist Paul Klee and made one of his popular art works.

I’d like to thank our parents and friends who continue to support our school in so many ways. Have a great TERM BREAK!
